Maxmo (Maksamaa in Finnish) is a municipality of Finland.


It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of 1,037 (2003) and covers an area of 148.06 kmē of which one fourth is land. The population density is 7.0 inhabitants per kmē.


The municipality is bilingual, with majority being Swedish and minority Finnish speakers.

Another galley shipwreck site which has been known for a long time is in the municipality of Maksamaa, about 40 km north of Vaasa, in the outer archipelago as specified in folk tales and Golowin's report.
Study of these sites has confirmed what we had learnt from Russian sources, while the finds themselves are consistent with written references to the equipment of the men and the ships, the booty from Umeå, and the little-known material culture of the period.
