There have been plans to further expand the stadium to seat appromiximately 60,000 spectators, as well as to build a roof, but they have been put on hold, for lack of funds.
The City Authorities appointed the highly respected Zagreb architects Nikola Filipovic and Branko Kincl to undertake an architectural study, to analyse the current conditions and explore the possibilities for the renovation, expansion and upgrade of the stadium.
On the northern side, the square is open towards Maksimir Park, whilst the MaksimirStadium closes off the square to the east.
Chief architect for the MaksimirStadium project is Professor Branko Kincl, Institute of Architecture, University of Zagreb.
