The Makushin Volcano (alternatively Mount Makushin) is a stratovolcano on the Alaska Peninsula. Makushin is a Russian name, probably derived from the word "makushka", meaning "the crown (of the head)" or "top," and applied to this feature because it is the highest point on Unalaska Island. This volcano was called "Ognedyshushchaya Gora" meaning "burning mountain" by Sarichev on a 1792 map.
