Mala Sinha (born 11 November 1936) is an Indian actress. She was quite popular in the sixties and early seventies. She was born to a Bengali-Nepali christian couple and was named "Alda". Her friends at school used to tease her calling Dalda (a branded vegetable oil of India), so she changed her name. She was a singer of repute and used to sing for All India Radio, albeit she was never allowed to sing playback (even for herself) in the movies. Her daughter Pratibha Sinha is an aspiring Bollywood actress. She debuted with a Bengali film titled, Roshanara in 1952. Mala Sinha (Bengali: মালা সিনহ্‌া)(born 11 November 1936) is an Indian actress.
Mala gave a memorable performance as the woman who chooses to marry a rich man (played by character artiste Rehman) rather than a poor unsuccessful poet (played by Guru Dutt himself).
In 1966, Sinha went to Nepal to act in a Nepali film called "Maitighar" when the Nepali film industry was still in its infancy.

In 1959, Mala had, on one hand the merry Dev Anand musical Love Marriage; while at the other end of the spectrum was her role in B R Chopra's Dhool Ka Phool.
Mala Sinha's marriage was a long-distance affair --- she lived in Mumbai, her husband in Kathmandu --- but it has lasted 34 years.
Though Mala evinced as much interest in her daughter Pratibha's career as her father did in her career, she was unable to achieve the same success for her daughter.
