The Genus Malvaviscus includes three species of shrubs from tropical America placed in the Family Malvaceae. The flowers resemble those of Hibiscus, except that the petals are folded spirally, remaining closed to encourage pollination by hummingbirds. Some common names are Turk's cap mallow, sleeping hibiscus, mazapan, and wax mallow.
In the same family as Hibiscus (Malvaceae), Malvaviscus is a genus of thicket-forming shrubs that have Hibiscus-like flowers that only partially unfurl, giving them a twisted, turban-like form, from which the stamens protrude.
Malvaviscus arboreus, is called Turks Cap, Wax Mallow, and Sleepy Mallow.
