Manchester is a village located in Adams County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,043.

Manchester is located at 38°41'22" North, 83°36'33" West (38.689546, -83.609263)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and 0.92% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,043 people, 882 households, and 555 families residing in the village. The population density is 730.4/km˛ (1,894.5/mi˛). There are 1,027 housing units at an average density of 367.2/km˛ (952.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.50% White, 0.15% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. 0.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 882 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.0% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.92.


In the village the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.1 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $23,140, and the median income for a family is $28,641. Males have a median income of $29,539 versus $20,179 for females. The per capita income for the village is $13,535. 23.3% of the population and 19.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 29.7% of those under the age of 18 and 23.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
