Mansfield is a city located in Newton County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 392.


Geography

Mansfield is located at 33°31'7" North, 83°44'7" West (33.518669, -83.735405)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and 0.93% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 392 people, 132 households, and 105 families residing in the city. The population density is 141.5/km˛ (367.8/mi˛). There are 142 housing units at an average density of 51.2/km˛ (133.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 78.06% White, 21.17% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 132 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.4% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.7% are non-families. 16.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.75.


In the city the population is spread out with 19.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 26.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 88.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.1 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $34,167, and the median income for a family is $37,813. Males have a median income of $31,250 versus $23,542 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,402. 10.2% of the population and 11.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.0% of those under the age of 18 and 25.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
