Lisbon, 11 Aug (Lusa) - The executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, MarcolinoMoco, said in Lisbon on Monday that East Timor could soon become the community's eighth member state.
Moco made the forecast in reaction to Portugal's recent "victory" in talks with Indonesia under the auspices of the United Nations about the political future of the occupied territory.
Moco said the talks had shown that Indonesia was now "more flexible" about the issue of East Timor, namely because of its own internal contradictions and the "heroic fight" of the East Timorese people, apart from the "persistance of the Portuguese diplomacy and international pressure on Jakarta".
