Modes

  • Story Mode: A single player must defeat the CPUs in several boards.
  • Mini-Game Mode: The player plays mini-games in which they have unlocked.
  • Puzzle Mode: The player plays one of five Mario-themed puzzle games.

Mini-Games

There will be a variety of mini-games throughout the game. From sources revealed, one of them involves trying to dodge soccer balls being kicked at you by a giant Goomba. One involves sliding down a wooden banister and another involves blowing out candle flames to try to win a race. Another mini-game is a game when you have to dodge buttons being shot by one player and the other three( which may include you) will have to dodge the projectiles.

Other minigames include knocking down a Whomp by blowing wind at it, strangling Goombas, racing on rafts, navigating partially invisible passages without falling down and collecting coins through flying.

There are over 70 mini-games to play in Mario Party DS. Most use the buttons, a lot use the stylus, and a few even use the microphone. In Story Mode, you play a mini-game after every character has made their turn on the board.

Rules

At the beginning of each game all four players hit a "Dice Block" numbered from one to ten, with the person scoring the highest going first. The person that goes first has a small advantage in that they are somewhat able to manipulate the movements of the subsequent players; the person that goes last in each turn cannot as easily set traps and is generally at the whim of their opponents' moves. Before play commences, everyone is awarded ten coins to get them started.

Plot

The game begins with a very peaceful evening in the Mushroom Kingdom where Mario sees flying crystals in the sky. The next day, he receives a note from Bowser that contains both an apology for doing bad deeds and an invitation to his castle for a feast. Mario gathers up Luigi, Toad, Yoshi, Peach, Daisy, Wario and Waluigi to go Bowser's castle. Once they get there, Bowser uses his powers to capture and shrink all eight. The miniature eight wake up outside and go on a quest to find the Sky Crystals to restore themselves to normal and defeat Bowser.

Reception

The game had strong sales the first week of its release. The minigames were well received as being fun, creative, and stunning. Among major gaming websites, Mario Party DS has had positive reviews. Image File history File links Question_book-3. ...

The choice to put Mario Party on Game Boy Advance only a few months before the DS is scheduled to go online is utterly bizarre to me. Most of the game focuses on the single player experience, which has never worked in the Mario Party franchise thus far.
Mario Party Advance is a mildly amusing experience, but a good addition to your collection if you want hours of relatively mindless entertainment--possibly for a long car or plane trip.
