Mark Bradtke's journey to Greece may have been a costly excursion, but the Tigers have welcomed him back with open arms.
Mark Bradtke left Melbourne on September 12 after signing a contract worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to join Olympiakos, one of Greece's basketball powers.
He was told Bradtke would have to make way for Mrsic's replacement - the club could not get a European for the spot, so would have to sack an import (the injured Bradtke) and bring in an American.
Melbourne Tigers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (819 words)
The 1992 loss demonstrated that the Tigers, despite their 'dynamic duo' of a backcourt in Andrew Gaze and Lanard Copeland, were in desperate need of a quality big man. This search ended in the next off-season, with the Tigers acquiring arguably the best big man in Australian Basketball history in Mark Bradtke.
With a 3-11 start to the season, after sacking import Jarvis Lang and having to deal with a mid season return from Mark Bradtke after time in the NBA, many commentators wrote off the Tigers.
Their streak was only broken during game 2 of the Finals against the Magic, with Brian Goorijan finally deciding to play his style of grind-out defensive basketball rather than trying to get into the Tigers free flowing style.
