MarkHendrick, who is half-Somali, was born in Salford, Lancashire and was educated at the Salford Grammar School and the Liverpool Polytechnic before attending the University of Manchester where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering; a master's degree in computer science; and the Certificate in Education.
Hendrick lives in Preston and speaks German and French and supports both Manchester City and Preston North End.
Hendrick won his first championship in his 12th season as a car owner, collecting the 1995 title with Jeff Gordon.
Since their second season together in 1989, Mark and his No. 6 team have finished second in points three times and been in the top 10 every year.
With his experience and remarkable consistency, Mark would appear to have the best shot, but he is coming off back surgery that will keep him out of a race car until February.
