Mark Roberts was born on November 3, 1969 in Llanrwst, Wales, UK. During his teenage years, he sing and played the guitar in the Welsh band, Y Cyrff. He then meet Cerys Matthews and formed Catatonia along with Paul Jones. He claimed for a a number of years that he had stumbled across Matthews busking in Cardiff and offered her a guitar string she was missing, which led to them playing together, but in actual fact they were ina long term relationship and cohabiting when they formed the band. Their split eneded their songwriting partnership and subsequently Roberts was resonsible for much of the band's lyrcial output. In Catatonia, Mark only played guitar and provided the backing vocals. After Catatonia, Mark did a spell of producing and formed (with Paul Jones and John Griffiths and Kevs Ford of LLwybr LLaethog), Sherbet Antlers.
