Marowijne is a district of Suriname, located on the eastern border with French Guiana. Marowijne's capital city is Albina.


Marowijne's population is 20,250 and the district has an area of 4,627 kmē.


During the early 1900s, bauxite was discovered in Marowijne district, leading to a boom in mining that significantly enriched the entire country. The district also has a large tourism industry.


Marowijne is also home to many Maroon palenques. The Maroons are descendants of slaves who escaped from their Dutch masters centuries ago, particularly slaves who escaped from Suriname's huge plantations during the 1700s.

Het district Marowijne werd ingesteld in 1894 en het was toen het op een na grootste district van Suriname.
Toen echter in 1983 het district Sipaliwini erbij kwam, werd een groot deel van Marowijne gevoegd bij het nieuw gevormde district.
Marowijne wordt begrensd door de Atlantische Oceaan in het noorden, door de districten Para en Commewijne in het westen, door het district Sipaliwini in het zuiden, terwijl het in het oosten van Frans-Guyana wordt gescheiden door de Marowijne rivier.
