Marquand is a city located in Madison County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 251.

Marquand is located at 37°25'43" North, 90°10'2" West (37.428745, -90.167176)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 km˛ (0.2 mi˛). 0.6 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 251 people, 95 households, and 66 families residing in the city. The population density is 403.8/km˛ (1,035.6/mi˛). There are 124 housing units at an average density of 199.5/km˛ (511.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 97.21% White, 0.00% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 1.59% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 95 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.3% are married couples living together, 15.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% are non-families. 28.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.21.


In the city the population is spread out with 31.9% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 69.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $19,861, and the median income for a family is $25,000. Males have a median income of $30,341 versus $12,083 for females. The per capita income for the city is $8,533. 32.5% of the population and 25.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 50.0% of those under the age of 18 and 27.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Marquand began a high school in 1919 with the addition of a ninth grade.
The Missouri Pacific Railroad discontinued service to Marquand in the early 1970's, but the memory of its influence will linger for years to come in the form of a town park that is currently being developed on the former railroad land.
