The racial makeup of the county is 77.99% White, 1.84% Black or African American, 9.10% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 6.17% from other races, and 4.71% from two or more races. 8.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,371 households out of which 27.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.10% are married couples living together, 8.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.20% are non-families. 26.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.87.
