The Martens constitute the genus Martes within the subfamily Mustelinae, in family Mustelidae. Martens are carnivorous animals related to wolverines, minks and weasels. Many are tree-dwellers, preying most commonly on squirrels. Their diet also consists of birds, fish, insects and eggs.
