Martha Corey was accused of being a witch in the 1692 salem witch trials. People were surprised when she was accused, she went to church as much as everyone else. Martha did not like the trials, she told her family to stay away from them. When she was about to be taken to prison, she laughed and said, "I know why you have come. You think I'm a witch, but I am none!" Martha thought that since she knew she was innocent, she could easily prove it. She had no idea of the fear witches brought Salem Village. In March,during her examination, Martha lifted her hand out to the judge and said, "We cannot believe these distracted children." The afflicteds' hands were lifted, and they begged Martha to put them down. When Martha bit her lip, the afflicted girls' lips began to bleed. Martha said she was innocent, but the jury found her guilty. Martha was hung on September 22, 1692. She was around 60. Her husband, Giles Corey was also killed. She was his third wife. Giles was pressed to death.
