Martin Baron, known as Marty, is the current editor of The Boston Globe. He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and graduated from Lehigh University. Baron started working for the The Miami Herald in 1976, moved to The Los Angeles Times in 1979, moved to The New York Times in 1996, and came back to the Herald as chief editor in 1999. He was named editor of The Boston Globe on July 2, 2001, sparked by the retirement of the former editor Matthew V. Storin.
