The University is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and one of five Marymount institutions of higher education.
In 1968 the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange partnered in the governing and staffing of Marymount College—it was then that MarymountCollege moved to the Westchester campus of Loyola University as an autonomous institution.
With the merger of Loyola University and MarymountCollege in 1973, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange joined the Society of Jesus and the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary as one of the sponsoring religious communities of Loyola Marymount University.
A fully accredited privatecollege, Marymount is the only co-educational, two-year, Catholic college in California dedicated to building the foundation for the four year bachelor degree.
