The Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) is a second level professional degree conferred by seminaries and theological colleges. Applicants for the Master of Divinity degree must have graduated with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 from an accredited college and, with occasional exceptions, must be candidates for the Christian ministry.
Applicants for the Master of Sacred Music degree must hold a BA or its equivalent, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and have a general academic background represented by at least 20 semester credits in the humanities and social sciences.
Theology requirements are taken in sequence to ensure that the student builds on previous knowledge and must be taken at the School of Theology.
Studies leading to the Master of SacredTheology Degree are designed to provide an opportunity for continued academic work beyond the Master of Divinity Degree.
A candidate for the Master of SacredTheology degree must complete the equivalent of at least 36 credit hours of graduate studies beyond the Master of Divinity degree.
It is the responsibility of the candidate, with the assistance of the director of the Master of SacredTheology degree program, to select an appropriate thesis adviser from the members of the faculty who shall agree to work closely with the candidate.
