The Las Vegas, Nevada-born actor made his début in the film The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004) as Intern #1, and now he is best known for his role as the young genius Dr. Spencer Reid in the CBS television show Criminal Minds. Coincidentally, his character on the show was also born and raised in Las Vegas. He also had a small role in RV as the disreputed Joe Joe. Gubler also worked as a model before becoming an actor. He has worked with DNA Model Management, Tommy Hilfiger, and numerous fashion designers. Matthew was interning for Wes Anderson at the same time he was modeling, and Wes encouraged him to audition for a part in his movie "The Life Aquatic". Gubler did, and landed the role of Intern #1.
