Red Hat was founded by entrepreneur Marc Ewing in 1993, and in 1995 Red Hat was bought out by ACC Bookstores, run by Canadian Bob Young.
Young then took the role as CEO of the company, until he was succeeded by Matthew Szulik in 1999.
On August 11, 1999, the company completed its initial public offering of six million shares of common stock at a price of $14 per share on the NASDAQ.
Red Hat Posts Higher Numbers in Q4 Report (1155 words)
Matthew Szulik, Red Hat's CEO, said that out of the company's 100 biggest support contracts, 99 have renewed during the year.
At year end, Red Hat's total deferred revenue balance was $223.5 million, an increase of 63 percent on a year-over-year basis and 12 percent sequentially.
Specifically, Szulik said that Red Hat would be hiring about 100 more employees per quarter going forward.
