Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,594 km˛ (616 mi˛). 1,587 km˛ (613 mi˛) of it is land and 7 km˛ (3 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.43% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 69,498 people, 26,444 households, and 19,277 families residing in the county. The population density is 44/km˛ (113/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 82.39% White, 14.25% Black or African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 3.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
