CATHAOIRLEACH of Mayo County Council Cllr Annie Mai Reape, has made a personal appeal to the Minister for the Marine, Frank Fahey to ensure that there "is a bend put in the gas pipeline in the direction of Ballina and Sligo".
"Mayo must gain benefit from the discovery of the gas that will flow through the county," said Cllr Reape, as she urged Mayo people living in Galway to impress on the Minister the county's determination to benefit from the gas find off the Erris coast.
Kenny, Mayo's longest serving TD, with 25 years experience in the Dáil behind him, was surprisingly dropped from the Fine Gael First Team by Noonan following the battle for the leadership of the party, in which Kenny received 40 per cent of the parliamentary party support.

The name of the Mayo family has been non-existent in Horry County since 1902 when the youngest daughter was married, but the influence of the Mayo family beginning in Martin County, North Carolina, reaches now unto the uttermost parts of the earth and even into space.
Mayo is a public spirited citizen, and has several times served an admiring constituency in public official capacity.
Evelyn Mayo Snider (8/23/07) was the only child to survive infancy, two boys (Ernest David and Roland Manley dying as babies.) "Miss Maud's" many abilities and charm endeared her to all.
