McClusky is a city located in Sheridan County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 415. It is the county seat of Sheridan County6.

McClusky is located at 47°29'3" North, 100°26'32" West (47.484280, -100.442103)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 415 people, 205 households, and 110 families residing in the city. The population density is 410.9/km˛ (1,072.9/mi˛). There are 247 housing units at an average density of 244.5/km˛ (638.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 99.28% White, 0.00% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 205 households out of which 18.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.9% are non-families. 43.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 27.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.93 and the average family size is 2.64.


In the city the population is spread out with 16.9% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 17.8% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 36.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 56 years. For every 100 females there are 82.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.5 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $21,731, and the median income for a family is $32,344. Males have a median income of $26,094 versus $15,625 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,874. 21.5% of the population and 12.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 33.3% of those under the age of 18 and 22.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

McClusky is a city located in Sheridan County, North Dakota and is the geographic center of North Dakota.
The principal crops are flax and wheat which were greatly aided in 1976 by the completion of the McClusky Canal just west of town which brings valuable irrigation water 74 miles from Lake Audubon (close to the Garrison Dam) nearly to the source of the Sheyenne River.
The Red River Valley and Western Railroad ran to McClusky and further west until the 1970s and North Dakota State Highway 200 is popular with cross-country cyclists.
