The Melba Gully State Park was formed to protect a small pocket of natural rainforest in the Otway Ranges near Apollo Bay in Victoria (Australia). The park is only 48 hectares in size, but the area it protects is extremely valuable as much of the rest of the Ranges has been burnt out many times by bushfires.
The park has few facilities due to its small size, but it has a picnic ground and basic picnic facilities, with the main attraction being the 35 minute Madsens Track Nature Walk.
The gully is a dense rainforest of myrtle beech, flwood and tree ferns with an understorey of low ferns and mosses.
The MelbaGully was purchased for Mrs Jessie Fry in 1921 and named by her after Australia's famous singer Dame Nellie Melba.
Through the 1930s and 1940s, MelbaGully was a popular picnic and lunch stop for bus tourists, but business came to an end in 1948 when a length limit was imposed on buses using Otway roads.
