2007 chemical release

In October 2007, there was a leak of hydrochloric acid from Reilly Plating Co., a metal finishing plant, and there was a "precautionary" evacuation of three schools and an estimated 3,000 residents. Hydrochloric acid is very dangerous when immersed in water, and can make vapor clouds. This did not happen, but one man was admitted to the hospital for exposure to the acid. The leak was quickly cleaned up, and pumped out, allowing residents, businesses, and schools to return to normal operation.
