Technically speaking, Switzerland also has a long-standing EU membership application, but the country has shown no interest in furthering the application, so it has been left to 'lie on the table'. Norway has previously submitted applications, but twice rejected membership in referenda.
While AFR covers the MemberStates from the Africa region, ERC is responsible for relations with the MemberStates from the four other regions and with Associate Members.
Relations with MemberStates are also ensured by the Directors and Heads of the UNESCO Regional, Cluster and National Offices.
MemberStates and Associate Members designate one or several Ministries responsible for relations with UNESCO and/or Ministries in UNESCO's fields of competence.
The MemberStates shall likewise refrain from making each other's territory the object of military occupation or other direct or indirect use of force in contravention of international law, or an object of acquisition by means of such measures or the threat of their implementation.
The MemberStates reaffirm their commitment to uphold and defend the principles of the UN Charter and international law as well as the means envisaged in the UN Charter for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
The MemberStates emphasize that in the process of the further elaboration of their positions the present Declaration may be complemented with new principles of international cooperation corresponding to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
