Griffin renamed his company to Merv Griffin Enterprises in 1984. He reported plagued financial difficulties in 1986 and sold his company to The Coca-Cola Company (which owned Columbia Pictures at the time)for $250 million. The company later merged into Columbia Pictures Entertainment in December 1987, and was sold to Sony Corporation along with CPE's other units in 1989.
