King would have been pleased by the turnout of old circus folk and their families for his funeral at the Anglican chapel at Rookwood and his wake in a pub in Glebe, just around the corner from the terrace house in Forest Lodge he bought for his family more than 50 years ago.
Mervyn Nairn, a former juggler who was brought through the circus ranks by King at Silver's, remembers his old friend as never being frightened "to speak up to right something that he knew in his own heart was wrong".
King worked for most of the big circus families, from the time he made his ring debut in an acrobatic routine three months after his adoption by the St. Leons.
