The Metropolis of Western Europe is an autonomous body in the Eastern Orthodox Church under the patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. This metropolitan church is received under the canonical jurisdiction of The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Like the other churches derived from the Orthodox Church in the former USSR, the church is not recognized universally as autonomy. After the fall of the Soviet Union, their church takes place at both part of the synod of Orthodox Bishops in France. The metropolitan of the church, Gabriel (de Vylder), was elected as exarch in 2003. Currently, the membership of this church is more or less 100,000. The Eastern Orthodox Church is a religious organization which claims to be the continuation of the original Christian body, founded by Jesus and his Twelve Apostles. ... The Russian Orthodox Church (also known as the Orthodox Catholic Church of Russia) (Русская Православная церковь) is that body of Christians who are united under the Patriarch of Moscow, who in turn is in communion with the other patriarchs and primates of the Eastern Orthodox Church. ...
