It covered the areas of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe, and was the successor to the St Olave's Poor Law Union which brought together the civil parishes of Bermondsey, Rotherhithe and Saint Olave's (near the cognate Tooley Street). The town hall was on Spa Road, SE16, and was bombed during World War 2. After the war a neighbouring building was used and is this now used as offices for Southwark Council.
