Mexico Beach is a city located in Bay County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,017.

Mexico Beach is located at 29°56'29" North, 85°24'23" West (29.941336, -85.406361)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is land and 0.76% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,017 people, 526 households, and 319 families residing in the city. The population density is 299.7/km˛ (777.3/mi˛). There are 1,322 housing units at an average density of 389.6/km˛ (1,010.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 95.67% White, 1.28% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.39% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.38% from two or more races. 1.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 526 households out of which 11.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% are non-families. 33.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.93 and the average family size is 2.42.


In the city the population is spread out with 11.1% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 34.8% from 45 to 64, and 30.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 54 years. For every 100 females there are 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $31,950, and the median income for a family is $40,163. Males have a median income of $30,278 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,871. 11.5% of the population and 8.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 18.8% of those under the age of 18 and 10.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
