Mimo nadania praw miejskich rodzina von Massow w dalszym ciągu traktowała Miastko jako swoją własność, dalsze spory spowodowały nawet interwencję króla Fryderyka Wilhelma I w 1721 r.
Miastko przetrwało wojnę bez większych zniszczeń, ale zdobyte 3 marca 1945 przez żołnierzy rosyjskich doznało z ich ręki zniszczeń sięgających 70% istniejących w mieście budowli.
Reforma z 1946 umieściła Miastko w województwie szczecińskim, z kolei w 1950 powiat miastecki znalazł się województwie koszalińskim.
