Political writings

Parenti is known, particularly in his capacity as a prominent member and head of the United States chapter of the International Committee to Defend Slobodan Milosevic, as a defender of the Serb position in the Yugoslav wars. He derided what he termed the "tireless demonization of democratically-elected President Slobodan Milosevic".[1] According to Parenti, these wars were caused by a deliberate US and Western policy aiming at dismembering Yugoslavia in order to impose liberal capitalism there. In this capacity he called for Slobodan's release and defended both Milosevic and Serbs against allegations of atrocities: Anthem Serbia() on the European continent() Capital (and largest city) Belgrade Official languages Serbian 1 Recognised regional languages Hungarian, Croatian, Slovak, Romanian, Rusyn 2 Albanian 3 Government Semi-presidential republic  -  President Boris Tadić  -  Prime Minister Vojislav KoÅ¡tunica Establishment  -  Formation 9th century   -  First unified state c. ... The media-hyped story of how the Serbs allegedly killed 7,000 Muslims in Srebrenica is uncritically accepted by Sell, even though the most thorough investigations have uncovered not more than 2,000 bodies of undetermined nationality. The earlier massacres carried out by Muslims, their razing of some fifty Serbian villages around Srebrenica, as reported by two British correspondents and others, are ignored. The complete failure of Western forensic teams to locate the 250,000 or 100,000 or 50,000 or 10,000 bodies (the numbers kept changing) of Albanians supposedly murdered by the Serbs in Kosovo also goes unnoticed. Claims of Fraud in 2004 Presidential Election

Parenti is among those who have theorised that the 2004 presidential election was fraudulent. In an essay entitled The Stolen Election of 2004, he argued that modern voting technology allowed powerful corporations to manipulate the electoral results. "Given this situation" he concluded, "it is not likely that the GOP will lose control of Congress come November 2006. The two-party monopoly threatens to become an even worse one-party tyranny". The GOP did, in fact, lose control of Congress come November 2006. Following the 2004 U.S. presidential election, concerns were raised regarding various aspects of the voting process: whether voting had been made accessible to everyone entitled to vote, whether the votes cast had been correctly counted, and whether these irregularities decisively affected the reported outcome of the election. ... This article is about the modern United States Republican Party. ...

The Assassination of Julius Caesar

In Parenti's The Assassination of Julius Caesar, he gives an alternative account of ancient Rome from that of traditional historiography; he describes Caesar's murder not in the usual way, as an attempt at "restoring republican liberties by doing away with a despotic usurper", but rather as an effort of the Roman upper class to do away with "a popular leader who threatened their privileged interests" [4]. The Assassination of Julius Caesar: A Peoples History of Ancient Rome, by author Michael Parenti, argues that Julius Caesar was assassinated because the wealthy, conservative elite wanted to block Caesars reforms. ...
