Michel Guimond (born December 26, 1953 in Chicoutimi, Quebec) is a Canadian politician. From 1987 to 1993 he served as a City Councillor in Boischatel, Quebec. After this, he ran in the Canadian federal election, 1993 for the Bloc Quebecois. He was elected into the Canadian House of Commons as the member from Beauport—Montmorency—Orléans. He was re-elected in the Canadian federal election, 1997, in the Canadian federal election, 2000 (in the riding of Beauport—Montmorency—Côte-de-Beaupré—Île-d'Orléans) and in the Canadian federal election, 2004 (in the riding of Charlevoix—Montmorency). A Lawyer, he has served as the Bloc critic of Parliamentary Affairs, Transport and to the Auditor General. He the current Whip of the Bloc Quebecois, and is a former Deputy Whip. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. During a vehicle checkpoint, MP Michel Guimond, assisted by a Bosnian language assistant and MCpl Hugo Morin of A Squadron Group 12 RBC, explains the harvest operation to a local driver.
Guimond did not just eat and sleep with the squadron, but was integrated in the team, went on patrols, and participated in vehicle checkpoints.
Guimond certainly gained a better knowledge of the work and the sacrifices required of the men and women of the CF serving on missions abroad.
