Michel Plasson , the conductor of the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse since 1968, will step down when his contract expires at the end of August, Agence France-Presse reports
Plasson was originally hired to direct both the Orchestre du Capitole and the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, but gave up his position at the opera house in 1983 in order to concentrate on the orchestra, which developed an international reputation and a considerable discography under his leadership.
According to AFP, Toulouse Mayor Philippe Douse-Blazy asked Plasson to extend his contract for an additional year, but Plasson declined because the Théâtre du Capitole will be using the Halle aux Grains next season while its own space is being renovated.
