As early as 1951, animator and film prodcuer Walt Disney began work on what would become Disneyland park in Anaheim, California. In the early stages, Disneyland was called the Mickey Mouse Park, and was planned to be a small, 16-acre theme park across the from the Disney Studios in Burbank, California. Walt Disney assigned Disney studio art director Harper Goff to create a series of sketches of the proposed park. By 1952, the park was unvieled to the public in the March 27, 1952 edition of the Burbank Daily Review with the headline: "Walt Disney Make-Believe Land Project Planned Here - $1.5 Million Dreamland To Rise On Site In Burbank." By the time the article was written, the "Mickey Mouse Park" name had apparently been dropped as the article was the first time the project was referred to as "Disneyland." 1952 (MCMLII) was a Leap year starting on Tuesday (link will take you to calendar). ...


Eventually, the project grew larger than the small 16-acres Walt Disney had originally planned to use and grew to the $17-million endeavor in Anaheim, California that was finally unvieled to an invitation-only crowd and through a live-television broadcast to the rest of the world on July 17, 1955.
