Microfilaments or actin filaments are made up of two twisted monomeric actin subunits. They are the thinnest filaments of the cytoskeleton. They function in muscle contraction, cytoplasmic streaming, ameboid movement, and changes in cell shape. Although they are found in all eukaryotic cells, they are found in especially large numbers in muscle cells where they, along with myosin filament, work to contract the muscle.
These microfilaments also provide superior moisture management: water such as sweat is absorbed by Evolon®, the fabric then dries very quickly wicking moisture away from the skin.
Evolon®’s filtration ability is due to the dense, compact structure of tightly entangled microfilaments.
Evolon® microfilaments are up to 100 times thinner than a human hair, and 5 to 10 times thinner than some other microfiber.
