Mid Devon is a local government district in Devon, England. Its council is based in Tiverton.


The district was formed on April 1, 1974 by the merger of the borough of Tiverton and Crediton urban district together with Tiverton Rural District, and Crediton Rural District. It was originally called the Tiverton district, and was renamed in 1978.

Devon is a large county in South West England, bordering on Cornwall to the west, Dorset and Somerset to the east.
Devon has also given its name to a geological era: the Devonian era (the era before the carboniferous stage), so-called because the distinctive red-sandstone of Exmoor was studied by geologists here.
Devon and South Devon are breeds of cattle that originated in the county.
