Ferrer was born in Santa Monica, California, the oldest of five children born to Puerto Rican Oscar winner José Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney-Ferrer. Ferrer was raised amongst all the splendor and glamour of Hollywood. As a child, his hero was Batman, and as a teenager his interests shifted towards music. He began carving a path as a studio musician. Ferrer played the drums on Keith Moon's Two Sides of the Moon.
