Mijas Golf, one of the many golf courses in Mijas Mijas is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, in Andalusia, southern Spain. It is a typically Andalusian white-washed village located at a mountain side about 400 m above mean sea level, in the heart of the Costa del Sol region. There are some local history museums and many souvenir shops, Mijas also has 7 Golf courses (4 more are under construction). Like much of this coast, it continues to grow in urban development, although at a somewhat more low-key pace. In addition, there are several places to explore the countryside from horseback. Created by Robert Trent Jones Senior, golf course architect par excellence and world renowned for his work that spreads from the Mediterranean to the Pacific, the Los Lagos and Los Olivos courses take the imagination, fulfilling the vision of the man and capturing the heart of every golfer who accepts his challenge During the last decade, Mijas Golf has become one of the most popular golf complexes in Europe, known by the outstanding condition of their courses and the friendly atmosphere and excellent service provided to the clients. The courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos, are situated in the centre of the “Costa del Sol”, in the valley of Mijas (Golf Valley), north of Fuengirola, only twenty minutes from the Málaga international airport, only twenty minutes from Marbella and 3.5 kms. From the sea. Los Lagos was the first course to be constructed under the direction of Mateo Pérez Robles, one of the pioneers of the tourist industry on the Costa del Sol. This course presents wide fairways, with numerous lakes -hence its name-, the water hazards which one finds at the 9th and 18th holes and also the many trees which are strategically placed to protect the large greens. The excellent economical situation and the good results, created the favourable atmosphere to build the new course, Los Olivos. Los Olivos was constructed originally during 1983-1984, although it has recently been totally refurbished in the 200-2001 period. This course lies in a smaller peace of land, and has different characteristics to his brother. The greens are smaller with undulations and well protected by bunkers. Also, it has a large number of olive trees strategically situated around the fairways, which demand a strong and straight drive from the player. Both courses pay homage to the architect's philosophy “difficult Par, easy Bogey” –, with very little rough, plenty of water and relatively flat. The Club House is an old Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse), and beside it, one can feel the continual buzz on the terraces of the Restaurant, renovated during the season 2003-2004 with a Sports-Tavern Bar, where the variety of our clientele can be noticed; Mijas Golf has managed to mix, with success, the residents on the area with visitors from all over the world. We continually look to the future following Mijas’ Golf mission statement to give exceptional service to all who come daily through our doors, for that reason one of the last improvements was the new fleet of Golf Karts equipped with the latest GPS TECHNOLOGY. |
