The company was founded in 1995 with the intent to tap in on the emerging Wireless technology market. As of 2005 the company employs more than 50 employees. The main product, known as RouterOS (based on linux), allows users to turn any PC into a full-featured router allowing features such as firewall rules, VPN Server and Client, bandwidth shaper, wireless access point and other commonly used features for routing and connecting networks together. The operating system is licensed in escallating levels, each releasing more of the available RouterOS features as the level number rises. Licensing is fee based and escallates with the released features. Broadly accepted as a staple of of Internet Service Providers who use the unlicensed frequencies to provide wireless service. Some operators complain that the frequent product updates can be difficult to stay abreast of, and it is not uncommon for updates to contain new "bugs" in the operating system.
