Encyclopedia > Milazzo

Milazzo is a town of 50.000 inhabitants on the north coast of Sicily, Italy. It lies 50 km from Messina, just north of the road to Palermo.


Its port is a departure point for ferries to the Aeolian (Italian Eolie) islands and Naples.


Milazzo is also known as the landing point of Giuseppe Garibaldi and his thousand Redshirts during the process of Italy's unification in the 19th century.
