Many of the Channel's shows center around war documentaries, though new content is still somewhat slim. This channel deals more with modern warfare, and in particular The U.S. Military, where as while The History Channel, The Military History Channel, and The History Channel International also sometimes show similar programing, they tend to show a greater deal of shows peraining to father time periods and other points of view (ancient, Roman, Medieval, eastern, foreign and other forms of warfare). The Military Channel has a greater deal of contemporary subject matter, that is, more shows dealing with electronic and network centric warfare (as well as Iraq and Vietnam wars) than its competetors seem to. An act of war - the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945, effectively ending World War II. The bombs over Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki immediately killed over 120,000 people. ... Because this channel is still relatively new, and is based on the Discovery Wings channel, it still has an overwhelmingly high percentage of its shows dedicated to aerial warfare and related technologies/issues. It also shows a lot of content brought over from other Discovery stations.


Discovery's Military Channel is not related to a similar effort of the same name from the late-1990s, which went dark in June 1999, due to financial difficulties.

The Military Channel is a repositioning of the aviation-centered Discovery Wings channel, which is already seen in about 35 million homes.
Considering millions of Americans have military experience and the country is at war, it seems like such an obvious idea for a network that it's a wonder a version of these networks didn't exist before.
Military history is still and will continue to be part of the History Channel's mix, but the network has been trying to broaden its reach in recent years with more programming on technological, social and religious history, said Dan Davids, network president.

They are at their best when showing historical footage (particularly the Military Channel), but most if not all of their programming should be taken with at least a grain of salt.
I don't mean to imply that the Military Channel or other Discovery channels were being used as platforms for inserting left wing political views; however, when many of these programs are put together, the producers are limited to whatever footage is available.
By the way, I forgot which of these channels it was, but one of them addressed key events in the Old Testament from a strictly military perspective.
