Mill Creek is a village located in Union County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 76.


Geography

Mill Creek is located at 37°20'32" North, 89°15'8" West (37.342142, -89.252261)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is land and 2.70% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 76 people, 29 households, and 18 families residing in the village. The population density is 79.3/km˛ (207.7/mi˛). There are 31 housing units at an average density of 32.3/km˛ (84.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 29 households out of which 44.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.2% are married couples living together, 3.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 27.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.26.


In the village the population is spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 39.5% from 25 to 44, 14.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 117.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 126.1 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $16,563, and the median income for a family is $25,417. Males have a median income of $21,875 versus $15,000 for females. The Mill Creek culture is part of a larger group of horticultural villages that start to appear around A.D. 1000 near the Missouri River from northwest Iowa to central South Dakota.
The 35 known Mill Creek villages cluster in two distinct areas in northwest Iowa: along the Little Sioux River and its three tributaries (Brooke Creek, Mill Creek, and Waterman Creek) and along the Big Sioux River and its tributaries in Plymouth County.
The Mill Creek sometimes utilized a garden area composed of numerous mounds of earth, referred to by archaeologists as ridged fields.
