The Milwaukee Hurling Club (MHC) has promoted the sport of hurling through education and game play since 1996. Hurling (Irish Language, Iomáint) is an outdoor team sport of Celtic origin, played with sticks and a ball. ...


The Milwaukee Hurling Club first introduced the sport of hurling to Milwaukee in 1996 with 30 members. In 1997, four teams were formed and this enabled the club to hold regular games. From 1998 through 2001 the league featured 6 teams. With the excitement and the number of people interested in playing continually growing the 2002 membership grew to an impressive 160 members playing on 8 teams, as well as 30-plus members participating in Camogie. Camogie (in Irish, Camógaíocht) is a Celtic team sport, the female variant of hurling. ...


Unlike other hurling clubs, the MHC plays as a coed sport, although Camogie is offered to the female members as well.

It has been 11 years since the inception of the Milwaukee Hurling Club and it still continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
The MHC is the largest hurling club in North America and is only overshadowed in size by some of the largest clubs in Ireland.
A club that caters to all ages and skill levels.
North American GAA (220 words)
Dave Olsen, of the Milwaukee Hurling Club, received one of the GAA's President's Awards presented at a banquet at Croke Park on Saturday April 1st.
Mr Olsen was the driving force behind the development of hurling in the predominantly American-born club, and has proven the point that hurling has plenty of room for growth regardless of Irish emigration trends.
"Hurling and the Milwaukee Hurling Club are the passion for this ultra-passionate man," Ms Fink added.
