The Ministry of Justice of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is in charge of a wide range of the country’s legal affairs, and it works closely with other government ministries, institutions and agencies to ensure that the rule of law in Afghanistan is upheld.
The Ministry strives to achieve justice for all in the country by building fairer, more credible and more effective justice and legal systems in which social, economic and political affairs and people’s interactions are governed by the rule of law.
The Ministry of Justice employs over 8,500 people throughout the country, including approximately 425 in its Kabul headquarters. It is currently in the process of restructuring its organization and streamlining operations through the government’s "Priority Restructuring and Reform" Program (click here for a description of that program).

At the same time, the Ministry is charged with the development of legislative initiative in basic justice sectors, in which is included the harmonization of internal law with the rules of international law.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice is entrusted with the planning and application of the general national correctional policy.
