Minster Abbey - Introduction (209 words)
The name Minster comes from the Latin monasterium, which means the home of a religious community, living under vows, secluded from the world, and we find the same word in Westminster Abbey and York Minster.
Minster in Sheppey and its splendid Abbey Church should not be confused with another Minster, also in Kent, near Ramsgate.
This Minster’s abbey was founded somewhat later than Sheppey’s and is home to a religious community.
