Miraz is the false king of Narnia, having killed his own brother, Caspian IX, in order to assume the throne. Miraz is a cruel and unpopular king who has banned the teaching of Narnia's pre-Telmarine history. He tolerates Caspian as his heir until his wife, Prunaprismia, bears a son. Caspian is then forced to flee. He is injured in a storm and sheltered by a talking badger and two dwarfs. He is then taken to visit other "Old Narnians" who live in hiding, and is accepted by them as their rightful king. Civil war ensues between Miraz and the Telmarines against Caspian and the Old Narnians. Caspian uses Susan's magic horn to call the Pevensies back to Narnia, and Peter duels with King Miraz. But Miraz trips and falls to the ground, and is stabbed to death by his counselor Lord Glozelle in revenge for an earlier insult. Caspian takes his place as king of Narnia, and with the help of Aslan restores the old ways. Aslan offers the Telmarines a chance to live on a secluded island in our world, saying that whoever accepts his proposal will lead a good life, though not in Narnia. Telmarines were a fierce people who inhabited the remote country of Telmar, in the world of Narnia. ...

Lewis never states what happens to Caspian's cousin, the son of Miraz and Prunaprismia, who had only recently been born.

Trivia

• Miraz's actor for the upcoming Disney adaptation, Sergio Castellitto, stated that Miraz will be the first villain role he has portrayed. On the character, he said that it will be "interesting to act out a stereotype."
• There has been some debate about how Miraz's name should be pronounced. In the 1989 BBC Mini-series, his name was pronounced "Meer-razz". But in the Behind-the-Scenes features on the DVD set of the 2005 film the makers of that film pronounced it "Murr-azz". In the 2008 Narnia movie, the Telmarines pronounce it "Meer-razz," while other characters pronounce it "Murr-azz."
